Only switch to HLS when viewing over a Verizon hotspot / puck (or another restricted network where feeds show LIVE but stay gray). HLS travels over standard HTTPS so it works on those networks, at the cost of a few seconds of delay. This switches the feed for all viewers — flip back to WebRTC after the operation for the lowest latency.
